Unless we go out of our way to counteract anti-fatness in our movement spaces, it will be present. Many people have had traumatic experiences in fitness spaces and dance studios, leaving a mark on body image and our relationship to movement. We see higher rates of eating disorders and disordered eating in fitness spaces, too.
Over the past few years I worked with Hipline studio in Oakland, CA, as a Body Empowerment Consultant. I met with staff and provided trainings on fat liberation and eating disorder awareness, making suggestions to aid their commitment to body empowerment. Because of this work Hipline has warmly welcomed in many new clients looking for safer, fat-positive movement spaces, increasing body diversity in classes, contributing to overall diversity, and creating a kinder environment for all of their clients.
I'd love to meet you where you are and discuss how Body Empowerment Consulting can welcome in clients you didn't even know you were missing, and transform your client experience in a way that keeps people coming back.

“It’s so important to me to be in a space that’s intentional around not perpetuating fat-phobia. It felt sincere and not just lip service. I will be back for sure.”
